About Us

Ikigai Architecture

This new architecture firm, located at the heart of the Caribbean, on the island of Saint-Martin, was founded by Gauvain DAUCHY, a young architect with a passion for interior design and tropical architecture. The firm stands out through its energy, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail. Driven by a bold ambition and a contemporary vision of tropical architecture, the architect designs spaces that are vibrant, sensitive, unique, and deeply rooted in their natural surroundings.

The firm’s expertise lies primarily in tropical architecture, conceived to fully embrace the Caribbean climate—its sunlight, natural ventilation, and the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living. Each project is built to be durable, visually innovative, and resilient to the Caribbean’s climatic challenges, while offering optimal comfort and livability. Every design responds carefully to the specificities of the site, the local environment, and the expectations and lifestyles of its occupants.

The firm’s name is inspired by the Japanese concept of Ikigai, which means “a reason for being.” It represents the perfect intersection between passion, vocation, profession, and mission. For us, architecture is an Ikigai in itself: a meaningful craft, an art dedicated to enhancing quality of life, and a deep commitment to both society and the natural world.

Each project is an opportunity to express a singular vision through a personal story that continues to evolve.
